Confocal Microscopy

Having been heavily involved with Bio-Rad in a design & product development capacity for over 12 years and being responsible for the opto-mechanical design on the worlds first 2-photon & multi-photon confocal systems (side port & Keller), we have gained a broad range of experience in the life-sciences and opto-mechanical fields.  We have more recently designed the opto-mechanical system and product packaging for the Becker Hickl DCS-120 Confocal FLIM Scanning System for LNSYS, optical specialists.

Musical Doors.  For a very well known stage musical, going on tour, involving a flying car, the stage required a series of automated opening doors covering an aperture 11m x 1.4m for the arm supporting the car to travel forwards and backwards on the stage.  The doors would open and close in sequence to allow the arm bogey to move.  When in the closed position they needed to support the weight of the dancing performers in front of and behind the car.  Unfortunately the space available in some of the allocated theatres meant that many proven ‘trap-door’ methods could not be used.  Delstar Engineering of Haverhill, responsible for designing and producing the stage for the touring show, had been told by 3 design houses it could not be done in the space allowed, only 180mm of height.  Jon Jamin Designs offered 3 solutions, modelled the chosen concept for appraisal using SolidWorks, used Cosmos analysis software to prove its integrity, designed it to detail and the show went on tour as planned.

Opto-Mechanics

We pride ourselves in having a good understanding of optics and how optics should be handled and with this knowledge we have worked with several optical specialists, such as Diverse Technologies and Consultantnet  on a wide range of opto-mechanical projects.

Video Displays

Having worked closely with Spectra Displays on a number of specialised display enclosure solutions, we are currently their preferred supplier for bespoke video mounting systems.  We have designed & supplied Spectra with frames & mounting systems for screens up to 12x5m
